Bone Regeneration
Besides particulate graft materials for bone regeneration, we can now add viable bone stem cells to rapidly regenerate bone in areas of severe bone loss. These products allow us to do more than we have in the past by acting at the cellular level. In the past we would have to obtain large grafts from other parts of the body (ribs, hip bones, etc). Now with these stem cell-like products, we don’t always need to do that anymore.
Osteocel
Osteocel is a bone graft product that is derived from stem cells that are found within bone marrow. The processing technology that produces Osteocel® results in a viable bone matrix product that preserves the native stem cells found in marrow rich bone.
Regenerate lost bone in the jaw
Osteocel is a new stem cell therapy that has been shown effective for regenerating lost bone. Used in the jawbone, Osteocel can help regenerate bone that has been lost due to periodontal disease and infections of the teeth. In the past, our goal was to halt the progression of bone loss. Today, we can actually grow bone back!
OraGen
OraGen refers to a new, advanced cellular bone allograft for dental bone regeneration, developed by LifeNet Health and distributed by Salvin Dental Specialties, providing osteogenic (bone-forming cells), osteoinductive (growth factors), and osteoconductive (scaffold) properties in one product for procedures like ridge and sinus augmentation. It’s a cryopreserved graft that contains living bone cells and demineralized bone matrix, aiming for faster, more predictable bone regeneration in complex dental cases.
Key Features
- All-in-One Solution: Combines living bone cells (osteogenic), growth factors (osteoinductive), and a scaffold (osteoconductive) for bone healing.
- Cellular Viability: Cryopreserved to maintain the viability of lineage-committed bone cells, promoting immediate new bone formation.
- Versatile Use: Ideal for sinus lifts, ridge augmentation, and repairing large bone defects in the jaw.
- Advanced Technology: Builds on previous cellular allografts (like Vivigen) for enhanced dental applications, offering a cutting-edge alternative to traditional grafts.
How it Works
- Osteogenesis: Living bone cells start producing new bone matrix right after implantation.
- Osteoconduction: The bone matrix provides a structure (scaffold) for new bone cells to grow onto.
- Osteoinduction: Natural growth factors within the graft stimulate surrounding cells to repair and form bone.
Availability
- Launched in early 2025, it’s available through dental suppliers like Salvin Dental Specialties.
- Requires specific storage (cryopreservation) but offers flexibility for use within a few days of shipping.
